A new respiratory illness similar to the Sars virus has been identified in a man being treated in Britain. There are also some suspected cases in Denmark.
The new virus is a type of coronavirus – a large family of viruses – including common cold and Sars (severe acute respiratory syndrome). Up to today, there is limited information on how much of a threat it may post to humans.
Experts do not yet know where the virus originated from. It may have been the result of a new mutation of an existing virus. Or it may be an infection thyat has been circulating in animals and has now made the jump to humans.
